131 MAIN Blakeney

Blakeney · American, steak, seafood

131 MAIN is a Blakeney dinner option for steaks, seafood and American dishes cooked over a hickory wood fire. The covered porch and fire pit give you another way to enjoy the evening. Dining-room reservations are available through Resy; the bar and patio take guests first come, first served. The restaurant is cashless, so bring a credit or debit card.

300 East

Dilworth · new american, seafood, southern

300 East has been serving East Boulevard in Dilworth for more than 35 years, in the Street Car Station Shops. The kitchen works seasonally with an emphasis on seafood and local sourcing. It runs weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is patio seating, weather permitting, and patio tables cannot be reserved. Guy Fieri filmed it for the Indulgent Dishes episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Abugida Ethiopian Cafe & Restaurant

Plaza Shamrock · ethiopian

Abugida is a family-run Ethiopian room on Central Avenue that describes itself simply as a 'Family owned authentic Ethiopian restaurant'. The food is eaten the traditional way, scooped with injera rather than cutlery, and the kitchen keeps a wide range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes on the board because Ethiopian fasting cooking is built that way. The cafe also serves a full coffee ceremony, poured at the table with frankincense burning alongside it.

Alexander Michael's

Uptown · american, pub food

Alexander Michael's has been a Fourth Ward neighborhood tavern since 1983, inside the brick Crowell-Berryhill Store that opened in 1897. The room kept pieces of Charlotte with it: the bar and back bar were made from solid oak doors taken from the old Independence Building, and the beer cooler came from a Charlotte grocery store around 1920. Come for a burger, a beer and a building that survived when much of the neighborhood did not.

Beef 'n Bottle Steakhouse

Brooks' Sandwich House

NoDa · burgers, hot dogs, american

Brooks' has been a walk-up window on North Brevard Street since 1973, opened by C.T. Brooks and run since by his twin sons David and Scott. Cajun Queen

Elizabeth · cajun

Cajun Queen has been serving Cajun food in a 100-year-old house in Elizabeth since 1985. Its own site says there is live jazz seven nights a week in the upstairs dining room, which makes it one of the longest-running live music rooms in the city that is a restaurant first. The kitchen runs nightly fresh fish specials alongside the standards.

Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.

Landmark Diner

Plaza Shamrock · greek, diner, american

The Landmark has been a Greek-run diner on Central Avenue since 1990, known for chicken souvlaki wraps and spanakopita sitting on the same menu as Southern plates, and it has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Lang Van

Plaza Shamrock · vietnamese

Lang Van has been cooking Vietnamese food on Shamrock Drive in east Charlotte since 1990, and in November 2025 it took the only Bib Gourmand in the city. Dan Nguyen has owned it since 2009, having taken it over from the original owner, and her husband Tuyen Tran does most of the cooking... the Charlotte Observer calls it immigrant-powered . The Bib Gourmand is MICHELIN's value designation, given for good cooking at a moderate price, and the Observer noted diners can eat here for twenty-five dollars or less. Axios Charlotte reported that after the award the line ran out the door and around the building, with regulars turning up carrying balloons and flowers.

South 21 Drive-In

Plaza Midwood · burgers, seafood, american

South 21 has been on East Independence Boulevard since 1955 and still says so at the top of its own site: 'Serving Charlotte Since 1955'. It is a survivor of the drive-in era, working the same lot on the east side while the road around it turned into an expressway. The board runs to burgers, sandwiches, fish plates, onion rings and daily specials. CharlotteEAST notes it has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

The Diamond

Plaza Midwood · southern, diner, burgers

The Diamond opened on Commonwealth Avenue in 1945 as the Diamond Soda Grill and is one of the oldest restaurants still running in Charlotte. Eighty years on it is still a brick diner turning out burgers, fried pork chops, fried chicken and meat-and-two plates. Charlotte Magazine keeps it in its restaurant listings.

Thirsty Beaver Saloon

Plaza Midwood

The Thirsty Beaver is the small brick dive bar on Central Avenue that a 323-unit apartment complex was built around. Brothers Brian and Mark Wilson opened it in 2008 and lease the building from owner George Salem, who turned down two offers from the developer that bought the surrounding land for 8.5 million dollars in 2015. The developer built the apartments in a horseshoe around the bar instead, and the Associated Press called it Charlotte's own version of the house from Up. There is live music on Sundays and a pool table.
