131 MAIN Blakeney

Blakeney · American, steak, seafood

131 MAIN is a Blakeney dinner option for steaks, seafood and American dishes cooked over a hickory wood fire. The covered porch and fire pit give you another way to enjoy the evening. Dining-room reservations are available through Resy; the bar and patio take guests first come, first served. The restaurant is cashless, so bring a credit or debit card.

300 East

Dilworth · new american, seafood, southern

300 East has been serving East Boulevard in Dilworth for more than 35 years, in the Street Car Station Shops. The kitchen works seasonally with an emphasis on seafood and local sourcing. It runs weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is patio seating, weather permitting, and patio tables cannot be reserved. Guy Fieri filmed it for the Indulgent Dishes episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Abugida Ethiopian Cafe & Restaurant

Plaza Shamrock · ethiopian

Abugida is a family-run Ethiopian room on Central Avenue that describes itself simply as a 'Family owned authentic Ethiopian restaurant'. The food is eaten the traditional way, scooped with injera rather than cutlery, and the kitchen keeps a wide range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes on the board because Ethiopian fasting cooking is built that way. The cafe also serves a full coffee ceremony, poured at the table with frankincense burning alongside it.

Alexander Michael's

Uptown · american, pub food

Alexander Michael's has been a Fourth Ward neighborhood tavern since 1983, inside the brick Crowell-Berryhill Store that opened in 1897. The room kept pieces of Charlotte with it: the bar and back bar were made from solid oak doors taken from the old Independence Building, and the beer cooler came from a Charlotte grocery store around 1920. Come for a burger, a beer and a building that survived when much of the neighborhood did not.

Armored Cow Brewing Co.

University City · beer

Armored Cow is the University City brewery, on JW Clay Boulevard near the UNC Charlotte campus. Dogs are a stated part of the house: 'Dogs are part of our family and part of our herd', provided they are leashed, friendly and respectful. Chewy named it one of the Top Dog-Friendly Breweries in the USA for 2025.

Birdsong Brewing Co.

Optimist Park

Birdsong was founded in 2010 by husband and wife Chris and Tara Goulet with their friend Conor Robinson, after they decided Charlotte needed a neighborhood brewery pouring fresh, unfiltered American ale. The taproom sits on North Davidson Street between Optimist Park and NoDa, with a patio running fire tables and outdoor heaters through the cold months.

Clutch Kitchen & Pour House

Neighborhood sports bar beside the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC stadium. Its site lists over 20 TVs upstairs, downstairs and on the patio, and it hosts Charlotte FC away watch parties.

Hawthorne's New York Pizza and Bar

Elizabeth · pizza, italian american

A New York style pizza room on East 7th Street in Elizabeth, established in 2004. The company's own site invites guests onto the patio, calls the restaurant family and dog friendly, and publishes a kids menu with pizza, chicken, pasta, ravioli and macaroni and cheese. Its current specials page does not publish a kids-eat-free offer, so this profile does not treat the older Tuesday promotion as current.

Lenny Boy Brewing Co.

South End · beer, kombucha, sour ale

Lenny Boy Brewing calls itself Charlotte's home for organic kombucha, beer and sours, on South Tryon Street in Lower South End. Alongside the kombucha it brews traditional beers, sours and craft cocktails. White Duck Taco Shop now operates inside the building, so guests order food at one counter and drinks at the bar and share a patio and pergola. The brewery's line is that culture matters.

Selwyn Avenue Pub

Myers Park · pub food

A neighborhood pub on Selwyn Avenue that has been serving the Myers Park side of Charlotte since 1990. Its own site leads with the outdoor space ... a large patio under a retractable roof, which is the reason most people name the place. The transfusion cocktail is the drink it is known for.

Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

beer, german

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery opened in 2009 and calls itself Charlotte's oldest standing independent brewery. It brews German-style beer to the Reinheitsgebot, using only water, malt, hops and yeast. Its LoSo home sits on a one-acre biergarten shaded by mature oak, pecan and hickory trees, which the brewery calls the largest biergarten in the Southeast. A second room opened in Ballantyne.

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Ballantyne

Ballantyne · german, american

OMB's Ballantyne taproom serves German beer with pretzels, sausages and American pub food. The restaurant and biergarten are on Bowl Street, so this is the south Charlotte stop rather than the brewery's LoSo location.

The Penguin Drive-In

East Blvd diner and bar, Est. 1954 per its Instagram. Its Iceberg Lounge and Moon Room have TVs, and its Instagram bio calls it the official home of Charlotte's Auburn Club.

Town Brewing Co.

Wesley Heights · pub food

Town Brewing sits on Grandin Road in FreeMoreWest, a block off West Morehead, and runs a full kitchen alongside the beer. The taproom keeps a standing weekly calendar: open mic every Monday, trivia, a run club, trail talk meetups and a kids-eat-free night. Indoor and outdoor seating both run to a decent size.

Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.

Tremont Kitchen + Bar

South End

South End kitchen and bar at Atherton Mill with a dog-friendly covered patio on the Rail Trail. Its site says it has plenty of TVs and lists Football Watch Parties among its busiest times.

Vaulted Oak Brewing

Grier Heights

Vaulted Oak opened on 9 June 2021 inside a refurbished BB&T bank building on Monroe Road in east Charlotte, which is where the name comes from. Outside there is a large patio, covered seating and lawn chairs around a fire pit, plus cornhole. There is no kitchen; food trucks run Wednesday through Sunday, Sal's pizza is across the street, and people are told they can bring their own food.

Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.

Wooden Robot Brewery

South End · beer

Wooden Robot calls itself an urban farmhouse brewery and says it blends art and science to make its beer. The South End room at 1440 S Tryon is the original taproom and it runs a kitchen and a coffee bar alongside the beer, opening at 8 a.m. on weekdays. A second Charlotte room, The Chamber in NoDa, holds the wood-aging program and a rooftop bar.

Wooden Robot Brewery ... The Chamber

NoDa

The Chamber is Wooden Robot's NoDa room, on E 36th St, and it carries a rooftop bar that the South End original does not have. It keeps its own hours and closes Mondays.
