131 MAIN Blakeney

Blakeney · American, steak, seafood

131 MAIN is a Blakeney dinner option for steaks, seafood and American dishes cooked over a hickory wood fire. The covered porch and fire pit give you another way to enjoy the evening. Dining-room reservations are available through Resy; the bar and patio take guests first come, first served. The restaurant is cashless, so bring a credit or debit card.

300 East

Dilworth · new american, seafood, southern

300 East has been serving East Boulevard in Dilworth for more than 35 years, in the Street Car Station Shops. The kitchen works seasonally with an emphasis on seafood and local sourcing. It runs weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is patio seating, weather permitting, and patio tables cannot be reserved. Guy Fieri filmed it for the Indulgent Dishes episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Abugida Ethiopian Cafe & Restaurant

Plaza Shamrock · ethiopian

Abugida is a family-run Ethiopian room on Central Avenue that describes itself simply as a 'Family owned authentic Ethiopian restaurant'. The food is eaten the traditional way, scooped with injera rather than cutlery, and the kitchen keeps a wide range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes on the board because Ethiopian fasting cooking is built that way. The cafe also serves a full coffee ceremony, poured at the table with frankincense burning alongside it.

Alexander Michael's

Uptown · american, pub food

Alexander Michael's has been a Fourth Ward neighborhood tavern since 1983, inside the brick Crowell-Berryhill Store that opened in 1897. The room kept pieces of Charlotte with it: the bar and back bar were made from solid oak doors taken from the old Independence Building, and the beer cooler came from a Charlotte grocery store around 1920. Come for a burger, a beer and a building that survived when much of the neighborhood did not.

BellyUp! Charlotte / Over 50

Nobody publishes the noise level, and it is the thing that decides the night.

Good places to eat and drink in Charlotte, minus the nightclubs. When a spot gets loud later or draws a lot of kids, the card tells you.

Gyu-Kaku Charlotte

Uptown · japanese, japanese bbq

Cook Japanese barbecue at your table at Gyu-Kaku on East Brooklyn Village Avenue. The Charlotte restaurant offers daily happy hour food prices until late afternoon, making a daytime meal another option besides dinner. Check the branch menu before booking because its food and drink offers run on different schedules.

Hestia Rooftop

Ballantyne · Japanese, Asian fusion

Hestia turns dinner into an occasion above Ballantyne Village. Sushi, seafood and Japanese A5 Wagyu share the menu with cocktails and a view across South Charlotte. The terrace is the draw when the weather cooperates. Full dinner service requires a reservation; the cocktail bar and uncovered patio accept walk-ins for drinks and small bites. Dressy casual or business casual fits the room, and athletic wear is not permitted.

Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.

O-Ku Charlotte

South End · japanese, sushi

O-Ku brings sushi rolls and sashimi to Atherton Mill in South End. Monday and Wednesday sushi happy hour starts before regular dinner service, giving you an early chance to settle in over rolls. The offer is dine-in only.

Omakase Experience by Prime Fish

Cotswold · $$$$ · sushi, omakase

Omakase Experience by Prime Fish is a counter of six to eight seats on Providence Road, run by chef Robin Anthony as a separate room from his Prime Fish in Ballantyne. Dinner is fifteen courses at three hundred and fifty dollars a head and a Saturday lunch runs ten courses at one hundred and seventy five, with fish flown in from Tokyo's Toyosu market. MICHELIN named it Recommended in the inaugural American South guide in November 2025, and Anthony was a 2026 James Beard semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast. It serves Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday by reservation through Tock, and is closed Monday and Tuesday.

Prime Fish

Ballantyne · sushi, seafood

Prime Fish is chef Robin Anthony's sushi room and sake bar on Providence Road West in Ballantyne, cooking traditional Edomae sushi with French and Southern influences. It is the parent room to the six-seat Omakase Experience by Prime Fish on Providence Road, and both made the inaugural MICHELIN Guide American South as Recommended restaurants in November 2025. Unlike the omakase counter it takes walk-ins, and it runs a lunch service Wednesday through Saturday alongside dinner six nights a week.

Soul Gastrolounge

NoDa · small plates, sushi

Soul opened in Plaza Midwood in 2009 as one of Charlotte's first small-plate restaurants, in a 68-seat upstairs room with no reservations and a waitlist that regularly ran two hours. Its own origin story says it was the first in the city to make local house deejays an integral part of the dining experience, and the house music has stayed. It lost the Plaza Midwood lease in 2022 and owner, chef and DJ Andy Kastanas spent three years building the replacement, reopening in August 2025 at 4110 Raleigh Street near the Sugar Creek station with roughly triple the seats, a semi-private dining room and a patio. The original interior designer, Scott Weaver, did the new room too.

Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.

Sushi Hana Ballantyne

Ballantyne · Japanese, sushi

Sushi Hana is the Ballantyne option for an all-you-can-eat sushi meal, with rolls and Japanese kitchen dishes. The restaurant publishes separate lunch and dinner menus, with different choices and rules for the all-you-can-eat format. Read those before ordering for a group. This branch is on Brixham Hill Avenue, west of The Bowl, and has its own reservation link.

Uchi Charlotte

Plaza Midwood · japanese, sushi

Uchi brings chef Tyson Cole's sushi and Japanese small plates to Commonwealth Avenue in Plaza Midwood. Daily happy hour lets you try a separate menu before the full dinner crowd arrives. Reserve a table or try a walk-in seat; patio seating depends on the weather.
