131 MAIN is a Blakeney dinner option for steaks, seafood and American dishes cooked over a hickory wood fire. The covered porch and fire pit give you another way to enjoy the evening. Dining-room reservations are available through Resy; the bar and patio take guests first come, first served. The restaurant is cashless, so bring a credit or debit card.
300 East has been serving East Boulevard in Dilworth for more than 35 years, in the Street Car Station Shops. The kitchen works seasonally with an emphasis on seafood and local sourcing. It runs weekend brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is patio seating, weather permitting, and patio tables cannot be reserved. Guy Fieri filmed it for the Indulgent Dishes episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Abugida is a family-run Ethiopian room on Central Avenue that describes itself simply as a 'Family owned authentic Ethiopian restaurant'. The food is eaten the traditional way, scooped with injera rather than cutlery, and the kitchen keeps a wide range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes on the board because Ethiopian fasting cooking is built that way. The cafe also serves a full coffee ceremony, poured at the table with frankincense burning alongside it.
Alexander Michael's has been a Fourth Ward neighborhood tavern since 1983, inside the brick Crowell-Berryhill Store that opened in 1897. The room kept pieces of Charlotte with it: the bar and back bar were made from solid oak doors taken from the old Independence Building, and the beer cooler came from a Charlotte grocery store around 1920. Come for a burger, a beer and a building that survived when much of the neighborhood did not.

An Italian room in the Strawberry Hill block of Providence Road, run by chef Gabriele Grigolon. His own site traces his cooking back through Milan, Monte Carlo and Paris before Charlotte. It is closed Sunday and Monday and serves lunch as well as dinner the rest of the week.
A South Boulevard steakhouse open since 1958, which makes it one of the oldest restaurants still running in Charlotte. It is dine-in only ... no delivery, no takeout ... and the room has kept its low light and red booths. Its own site leads with steaks, service and the wine list.
Bite Your Tongue brings New Orleans cooking to the Historic West End. Chef Martine Courtney Clark serves po’ boys, gumbo and jambalaya from the kitchen at 1121 Beatties Ford Road. The restaurant’s recent posts show a hot-sausage po’ boy piled with lettuce and tomato ... a good glimpse of the kind of lunch to expect.
A Ballantyne Village steakhouse serving USDA Prime beef, seafood and a wine and cocktail list, open daily from 3:30 in the afternoon. Its own site says menu and sourcing decisions are made in the building, and it runs a monthly jazz night.
Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.
Cabo Fish Taco holds the corner of North Davidson and 36th Street, serving what its own site calls fresh coastal Mexican fare. The kitchen works from the Baja tradition and its own site traces the style back to the coastal roadside taco stands of Baja Mexico.
Cabo's Ballantyne restaurant serves Baja-style fish tacos with burritos, quesadillas and margaritas. It brings the menu's NoDa roots to North Community House Road. Order from this branch for a south Charlotte meal rather than the North Davidson Street location.
Caroline's pairs a raw bar with a patio at the JW Marriott in Uptown. High Tide Happy Hour is the reason to arrive before dinner: chef-selected oysters and small plates have their own weekday prices. The raw bar takes walk-ins, and the hotel offers paid parking.
Cuzzo's began in 2014 as a Southern food truck run by first cousins Andarrio Johnson and Anglee Brown, who were born and raised in the South Carolina Low Country, and became a west Charlotte restaurant in 2016. This is the second room, on North Tryon Street in University City. The motto on the wall is 'Where Everyone's Family', and the kitchen is known for lobster mac and cheese and shrimp and grits.
Fin & Fino calls itself a social seafood house and is part of Charlotte's Rare Roots Hospitality group. The menu is built around shared plates drawn from seafaring cultures of the Atlantic. The kitchen offers a chef's-choice option called The Treatment, where guests hand over the course selection. A second room opened at Birkdale Village.
The Northlake Mall Firebirds has a bar and patio for an early bite as well as a full steakhouse dining room. Its weekday shared-plate deals make it useful for a stop after shopping or work. This is the Charlotte Northlake branch, separate from the Huntersville restaurant.
Firebirds at Morrison gives SouthPark a steakhouse with a dedicated bar and patio. Weekday happy hour brings discounted shared plates to those seats. The Sharon Road branch publishes its own menu, so use it rather than prices from another Firebirds location.
Firebirds at StoneCrest Shopping Center pairs a steakhouse dining room with a bar and patio near the cinema. Stop at the bar for weekday shared-plate deals before a movie or dinner. Use the Rea Road location's menu because prices vary across branches.
Growlers pairs a craft beer list with what its own site calls craft Americana food, built around oysters, burgers, sandwiches and wings. The kitchen closes at 11pm but the bar runs to 2am on Friday and Saturday, which makes it one of the few genuinely late rooms on North Davidson. It is run by Jeff Tonidandel, a Certified Cicerone, with Jamie Brown, the same pair behind Haberdish, Ever Andalo and Supperland.
Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.
A small restaurant and wine market on Park Road cooking what it calls contemporary, seasonal Carolina Piedmont food with global influences. It is run by Eric and Cat, who are named on the site. Sunday Supper is a single 5:30 seating and takes reservations only; the wine market is open midday Wednesday through Saturday.
Prime Fish is chef Robin Anthony's sushi room and sake bar on Providence Road West in Ballantyne, cooking traditional Edomae sushi with French and Southern influences. It is the parent room to the six-seat Omakase Experience by Prime Fish on Providence Road, and both made the inaugural MICHELIN Guide American South as Recommended restaurants in November 2025. Unlike the omakase counter it takes walk-ins, and it runs a lunch service Wednesday through Saturday alongside dinner six nights a week.
An American restaurant and steakhouse in the Strawberry Hill Shopping Center, founded in 1992. Its own site names the owners only as John and Ron and calls the business locally owned and operated, aiming at good food and drink at a reasonable cost. Steaks, pasta and seafood are the core of the menu.
STK puts a lively steakhouse and bar on South College Street in Uptown. Social Hour adds smaller bites before dinner and again on selected late nights. The restaurant also publishes Wednesday patio music, making an early bite an easy start to a longer evening.
Sea Level NC is an oyster bar and seafood room in Uptown Charlotte on East 5th Street. The bar runs an oyster happy hour Monday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. with house oysters at $1.50. The bar stays open later than the dining room, which closes at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is one of four rooms in the Charlotte group that trades as eat704, alongside The Waterman Fish Bar, High Tide and Packard Tavern.
South 21 has been on East Independence Boulevard since 1955 and still says so at the top of its own site: 'Serving Charlotte Since 1955'. It is a survivor of the drive-in era, working the same lot on the east side while the road around it turned into an expressway. The board runs to burgers, sandwiches, fish plates, onion rings and daily specials. CharlotteEAST notes it has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
A small seafood restaurant on Colwick Road in Cotswold, dinner only, seven nights a week from five to ten. It sits off the main Providence Road run rather than on it.
The Fig Tree is a white-tablecloth restaurant inside the restored 1913 Lucas House in Elizabeth. Husband-and-wife owners Greg and Sara Zanitsch have run it here since 2005, with seasonal French and Italian influences, a deep wine list and an elk chop that has stayed on the menu for more than fifteen years. The veranda and residential-size rooms make dinner feel like a special occasion without pretending the building was ever anything but a house.
The Waterman Fish Bar is a neighborhood seafood room on South Boulevard in South End with an 80-seat rooftop bar called Topside, which keeps its own hours and seats first come, first served. The kitchen says it buys responsibly sourced domestic seafood and runs a $1.50 oyster happy hour. It is part of the Charlotte group that trades as eat704, alongside Sea Level, High Tide and Packard Tavern. There is also a Waterman counter at Charlotte Douglas airport, which is out of scope for this site.
An all-vegan food truck started in 2019 by Akil and Paris Courtney, working plant-based versions of seafood and fried chicken: bang bang shrymp, krab cakes and chik'n wingz, with a weekend brunch service.
