This is the original Amelie's, and the company says so plainly on the location page: the NoDa shop is the Original, the Icon, the Heart of Amelie's history. The room is decorated with Eiffel Tower legs peeking from the walls and local artwork, and the company's own description is a vibrant arts-district backdrop with just the right amount of quirky chaos. There is a full pastry case, a cafe menu, a barista station and outdoor seating, and it stays open to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Amelie's has since added Park Road, Carmel Commons, Uptown, Plaza Midwood and Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Over 50 Charlotte: NoDa
North Davidson, a mill village that became Charlotte's arts district. The cotton mills and the houses built for the people who worked them are still standing, and what moved into them was galleries, music rooms and kitchens. It is the densest stretch of independent restaurants and breweries in the city, and almost all of it is walkable from one corner.
Brooks' has been a walk-up window on North Brevard Street since 1973, opened by C.T. Brooks and run since by his twin sons David and Scott. It is cash only, with an ATM on site, and it keeps weekday daytime hours only, 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday. The menu is burgers and hot dogs and nothing that needs explaining.
Cabo Fish Taco holds the corner of North Davidson and 36th Street, serving what its own site calls fresh coastal Mexican fare. The kitchen works from the Baja tradition and its own site traces the style back to the coastal roadside taco stands of Baja Mexico.
Divine Barrel sits at the north end of NoDa on North Davidson Street and runs something most nights of the week: trivia Mondays, vinyl listening sessions Tuesdays, game night Wednesdays and a run club Thursdays. The brewery publishes its experimental work under the name DBB Labs.
Ever Andalo is the Italian room on North Davidson Street in NoDa from the Tonidandel-Brown Restaurant Group, the same Charlotte company behind Haberdish a few doors down and Supperland in Plaza Midwood. The kitchen makes its own burrata, fresh pasta and desserts in house, and the wine list is entirely Italian, put together by sommeliers Michael Klinger and Catherine Dawson. The bar is run by Colleen Hughes, who took the MICHELIN Exceptional Cocktails Award at the group's Supperland in the same 2025 selection. Ever Andalo was named MICHELIN Recommended in the inaugural American South guide and serves dinner six nights plus weekend brunch.
Great Wagon Road distils in NoDa on Anderson Street, making Rua single malt whiskey, Rua Gold, Quinn's Carolina Whiskey, Drumlish Irish poitin, Salamander vodka and 704 Gin, using spring water from Yancey County in the Blue Ridge. The room pours 14 beers on draft alongside the spirits and runs its own pizza kitchen. Weekly programming includes run clubs, open mic nights, live jazz on Mo Betta Thursdays, flight tastings and distillery tours.
Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.
Growlers pairs a craft beer list with what its own site calls craft Americana food, built around oysters, burgers, sandwiches and wings. The kitchen closes at 11pm but the bar runs to 2am on Friday and Saturday, which makes it one of the few genuinely late rooms on North Davidson. It is run by Jeff Tonidandel, a Certified Cicerone, with Jamie Brown, the same pair behind Haberdish, Ever Andalo and Supperland.
Open late. Go earlier if you want a calmer room.
Haberdish is a Southern mill-town kitchen on North Davidson Street, built around fried chicken, Southern vegetables and an apothecary-style craft cocktail programme. The name and the cooking both reach back to NoDa's textile mill history, which is the neighbourhood the restaurant sits in. It belongs to the Tonidandel-Brown Restaurant Group along with Ever Andalo a few doors up and Supperland in Plaza Midwood. MICHELIN named it Recommended in the inaugural American South guide in November 2025, and it serves lunch, dinner and weekend brunch Tuesday through Sunday.
Heist's original room is upstairs at 2909 N Davidson Street in NoDa, a brewery with a full kitchen rather than a taproom with a food truck. The company later added Heist Barrel Arts at 1030 Woodward Ave, a much larger production brewery and taproom with Livy's Neapolitan Pizzeria inside it.
Idlewild calls itself a little cocktail bar and means it. It is on E 36th Street in NoDa, it takes no party larger than six, it allows no children, and it runs to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations go through Resy but walk-ins are welcome.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
JackBeagle's calls itself NoDa's favourite bar and restaurant and describes its own room as having a dive feel, serving hand-crafted food in a high-energy but casual setting. It opens at 7am on weekdays and serves breakfast every day, which is unusual for a bar on this strip, and stays open to 2am on Friday and Saturday.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
Local Loaf has been on East 35th Street since 2013, serving gourmet sandwiches, brunch and entrees that its own site describes as chef-inspired takes on classic dishes. Chef Adam Spears runs the kitchen. The signature is hand-breaded chicken with poached eggs and house sauces.
The Neighborhood Theatre was built as the Astor Theatre in 1945, part of the post-war movie theatre boom, and was converted to a live concert venue in 1997. Its own site describes both a small room for emerging artists and a larger main stage for touring acts. It runs a bar, which went cashless on 24 February 2025, and it is the anchor that gives the NoDa arts district its music reputation.
This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.
NoDa Brewing has been, in its own words, brewing craft beer for the Carolinas since 2011. It took its name from the NoDa arts district where it started, then moved its brewery and taproom to 150 W 32nd St off North Tryon; the old N Tryon address is still used for shipping. Pizza is served on site.
A fully vegan fast-casual room on North Davidson Street that calls itself Charlotte's first vegan restaurant in the Arts District. The menu runs to waffles, wraps, burgers and pastries, and the kitchen leans on South African dishes alongside soul food. CLTure names Tallulah Duffin as the owner. A second grab-and-go counter, Oh My Soul On The Moo've, is mentioned on the site without its own address.
Olivelli is a deli counter on North Davidson serving fresh bread, stacked sandwiches on house-baked benne seed rolls, and housemade soft serve, with breakfast until 11am. It is part of the Tonidandel-Brown restaurant group, the same people behind Haberdish, Growlers, Ever Andalo and Supperland. It took over the space the group's Reigning Doughnuts held: reigningdoughnuts.com now redirects here.
Salud is a neighbourhood bar and pizzeria on North Davidson that pours both its own house-brewed beer and a curated list from elsewhere. Its own site describes the place as good food, no compromises, and the kitchen runs to pizza and sandwiches. It opens at 8am on Saturday and Sunday.
Smelly Cat has been roasting on East 36th Street since 2000, which makes it one of the oldest craft coffee rooms in Charlotte. It roasts its own beans in small batches on site and makes its own syrups, and it sits directly across from the Neighborhood Theatre in the middle of the NoDa arts district.
Soul opened in Plaza Midwood in 2009 as one of Charlotte's first small-plate restaurants, in a 68-seat upstairs room with no reservations and a waitlist that regularly ran two hours. Its own origin story says it was the first in the city to make local house deejays an integral part of the dining experience, and the house music has stayed. It lost the Plaza Midwood lease in 2022 and owner, chef and DJ Andy Kastanas spent three years building the replacement, reopening in August 2025 at 4110 Raleigh Street near the Sugar Creek station with roughly triple the seats, a semi-private dining room and a patio. The original interior designer, Scott Weaver, did the new room too.
Go early. It turns into a late-night spot later in the evening.
The Evening Muse has been running on North Davidson Street since 2001 and bills itself as Charlotte's premiere intimate venue for up-and-coming and established musicians, artists, comedians and poets. It is a listening room rather than a bar with a stage, and it runs a Monday open mic. Its calendar carries shows into 2027.
This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.
The Goodyear House is a restaurant inside a restored 1920s mill home on North Davidson Street, and the name comes from how the house grew. Its own site explains that when folks had a good year, they would add onto their homes, so each section could carry a different colour or style. Behind the house is a tree-covered garden and patio built for gathering. The kitchen serves lunch and dinner through the week, plus brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
The Chamber is Wooden Robot's NoDa room, on E 36th St, and it carries a rooftop bar that the South End original does not have. It keeps its own hours and closes Mondays.
